WHAT IS PHYSIOTHERAPY?

According to the Health Professionals Council of South Africa, a physiotherapist assesses, treats and manages a wide variety of injuries including ailments from the fields of orthopaedics, neurology, respiratory and thoracic, cardio-vascular, obstetrics, sports medicine, paediatrics, geriatrics, intensive care units and general rehabilitation. Other medical fields and community care also falls within the scope of physiotherapy.

In order to assess, treat and manage these conditions, the physiotherapist utilises a number of different modalities that are individually specified to each patient’s needs. Please contact us if you have any queries regarding a specific condition, or the need for prophylactic management of any problem.

Frequently Asked Questions

DO I NEED TO HAVE A REFERRAL FROM A DOCTOR?

Physiotherapists are first line practitioners and therefore you do not need a referral from a doctor to see a physiotherapist.  However, some medical aids require a referral letter before they will authorise payment.  Please find out from your medical aid what their specific requirements are.

DO YOU CHARGE MEDICAL AID RATES?

We do charge medical aid rates and submit online to your medical aid.  However, we are not contracted in with your medical aid and it is your responsibility to ascertain from your medical aid if there are funds available for outpatient physiotherapy.  It is ultimately your responsibility to settle any unpaid accounts with us.

If you wish to pay our private rates and claim back from your medical aid, feel free to contact us about our private rates.

DO YOU HAVE CARD FACILITIES?

Yes, we do have card facilities available.

Years ago I was living on anti-inflammatory and pain pills with my lower back problem and an inflamed Sciatic nerve. I had tried everyone’s advice, but with no success. Then I had the great blessing of going to see if Katrien could help.

From the first visit I felt a difference and she has been in my life ever since. Not only does she do her job excellently, but she is an educator and involves her patients in their own health management. She is well educated on many health issues and has a very holistic approach, that I have found wonderfully beneficial.

I now see my monthly visits as prevention rather than cure – avoiding the problems of before. As part of my overall health I attend her Pilates class and have benefited greatly from strengthening my core muscles and moving with supervision.
